Nothing beats a great book — not even great movies based on books. From classics to more RomCom, some of the greatest movies ever made started out as books. Check out these films that made the big leap from page to screen.

Harry Potter

(2002–2011)

Author : J. K. Rowling

The Harry Potter film series sports four directors and two credited screenwriters, and despite being eight films long, it had to edit J.K. Rowling’s story went down quite a bit. But the films are pretty faithful to both the plot and the character development that is Rowling’s true genius. They’re the ideal adaptations for fans who want nothing more than to see the incredible stuff they’ve just read about. Harry Potter is still known to be the best children’s movie of all time.

The Lord of the Rings

(2001–2003)

Author: J.R.R. Tolkien

The Lord of the Rings is an epic high-fantasy novel by English author and scholar J. R. R. Tolkien. Set in Middle-earth, intended to be Earth at some time in the distant past, the story began as a sequel to Tolkien’s 1937 children’s book The Hobbit, but eventually developed into a much larger work.

The Social Network

(2010)

Author: Ben Mezrich

This movie is based on a non-fictional book called The Accidental Millionaire by Ben Mezrich. Well researched story about founding the world famous website Facebook who is a harvard student. A film that effortlessly combines remarkable visual style with advanced technology.

To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before

(2018)

Author: Jenny Han

The New York Times bestseller book staggering the story about womanhood, sexuality, and the strains of adolescence came to life in this touching Netflix adaptation. This movie was named Rom-Com classic within a week of its release and fans say it is one of the best movies from book adaptation.

The Princess Diaries

(2001)

Author: Meg Cabot

The young adult book series, written like a diary, will make you fall even more in love with Mia than the film adaptation did. One of the great princess movies of all time. The story is about a girl Mia who doesn’t know that she belongs to a royal family and later on her struggles to accept the traditions. Peppered with observations about friendship, love, and growing up, the books are as funny as the movie.
